And just like that, the wind swung around and came out of the north, blowing the humidity away, dropping the temperature by a dozen degrees, and the surf is suddenly loud. With the heat and humidity this past weekend, breathing was difficult. Even moving around was a chore.
But this morning all that changed. The rain has been holding off. The cool and drier north wind makes everything feel a little lighter. For the first time in a month I was able to complete the full tai chi set of 108 moves. I’m tired now, but with a good feeling of something important accomplished.
My POC (portable oxygen concentrator) was giving me a hard time Saturday evening. I was pacing the deck to exercise my legs and lungs when POCy began beeping and showing a warning light. The display showed a large O2. I didn’t realize it until I spoke with an on-call respiratory therapist that I had been walking too quickly and the POCy couldn’t feed me the oxygen I was demanding. It’s kind of funny. These days I move so slowly everything else is passing me. Yet the machine that supposed give me portable oxygen couldn’t keep up. We’re all good now. Me and POCy have set a different pace that keeps the warning light and beeps at bay.
I think I’ll go back outside. I’ll have to put something long-sleeved on with the cool wind. I’m going to sit and listen to the surf for awhile.
